Abu Simbel Day Trip from Aswan – Tour Details
The temples of Ramesses II
Abu Simbel sits near the Sudanese border, around three and a half hours by road south of Aswan. The Great Temple of Ramesses II is fronted by four seated colossi of the king; beside it, the smaller temple is dedicated to Hathor and to his queen, Nefertari.
Moved to save them
In the 1960s both temples were cut into blocks and rebuilt on higher ground to save them from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. Your guide explains how it was done and where they originally stood.
Getting there
By road, with an early departure from Aswan so that you arrive in the morning. Flights from Aswan are also possible on some days; ask us when you request a quote.
Good to know
Twice a year, around 22 February and 22 October, the rising sun reaches the inner sanctuary of the Great Temple. These days are very busy and need early planning.
