Giza Pyramids, Sphinx and Grand Egyptian Museum Day Tour – Tour Details
Why these two belong in one day
The Giza plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum sit about two kilometres apart, so the monuments and the objects that came out of them can be seen in a single, unhurried day. You see the Pyramids first, while the morning is cool, and move indoors to the museum as the heat builds.
The Giza Plateau
The Great Pyramid of Khufu, the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, the panorama point where all three line up, and the Sphinx beside the Valley Temple of Khafre. Going inside the Great Pyramid is a separate ticket and a steep, narrow climb, so it is worth deciding in advance whether you want it.
The Grand Egyptian Museum
The colossal statue of Ramesses II stands in the atrium, the Grand Staircase is lined with royal statuary, and the Tutankhamun galleries display the boy king’s burial treasure together. The museum is very large; we plan at least two to three hours inside rather than a quick walk-through.
Good to know
Start early. The plateau is quieter before the coach groups arrive and has very little shade, so bring sun protection and comfortable shoes.
