Historic Cairo Tour: Citadel, Mosques and Khan el Khalili – Tour Details
The city of a thousand minarets
Cairo was a great Islamic capital long before it was a gateway to the Pyramids. This tour covers its medieval heart, from the hilltop Citadel to the lanes of the old walled city.
Citadel and mosques
The Citadel of Saladin and the alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali, with views across the city, then the Mosque-Madrasa of Sultan Hassan and the Al-Rifai Mosque facing it.
Al-Muizz Street and the bazaar
A walk along Al-Muizz li-Din Allah Street, lined with Mamluk mosques and houses, ending in the Khan el Khalili bazaar for coffee and shopping.
Good to know
Mosques ask visitors to cover shoulders and knees, and women to cover their hair; scarves are usually available. Mosques may close to visitors during Friday midday prayers.
