Saqqara, Memphis and Dahshur Day Tour – Tour Details
Where pyramid building began
Before Giza there was Saqqara and Dahshur. This day follows the story in order: the first stone pyramid, the ancient capital that ruled it, and the two experiments that taught Egypt’s builders how to make a true pyramid.
Saqqara
The Step Pyramid of Djoser and its enclosure, the oldest monumental stone complex in Egypt. Depending on what is open on the day, your guide will add one of the decorated tombs of the Old Kingdom nobles nearby.
Memphis
The open-air museum at Mit Rahina, on the site of Egypt’s first capital, with the fallen colossus of Ramesses II and the alabaster sphinx.
Dahshur
The Bent Pyramid, where the angle changes halfway up, and the Red Pyramid, the first successful smooth-sided pyramid. Dahshur sees far fewer visitors than Giza, so you often have the site almost to yourself.
