Wadi Degla Desert Hike near Cairo – Tour Details
Desert on the city’s doorstep
Wadi Degla Protectorate is a dry valley cut into limestone just east of Maadi. Its cliffs hold marine fossils from when the area lay under the sea, and the valley is home to desert plants, birds and, with luck, foxes.
The hike
An easy to moderate walk along the valley floor and up to viewpoints, at a pace that suits your group.
Good to know
There is little shade. Go early or late in the day, and bring water, a hat and good shoes.
