El Alamein Day Tour: WWII Museum and War Cemeteries – Tour Details
Why El Alamein matters
In 1942 the battles at El Alamein stopped the Axis advance towards Alexandria and the Suez Canal. Today the battlefield is a quiet stretch of coast with a museum and the memorials of the armies that fought there.
What you see
The El Alamein War Museum, with vehicles, weapons and maps of the campaign; the Commonwealth War Cemetery with its long rows of headstones; and the German and Italian memorials further west along the coast.
From Alexandria or Cairo
El Alamein is around an hour and a half from Alexandria and around three hours from Cairo. It works as a day trip from either, or as a stop on the way to Siwa.
